Margate boss Reece Prestedge hoping to have a busy week as 2023/24 season squad starts to take shape

Manager Reece Prestedge hopes to have a busy week at Margate.

Prestedge is preparing for a first full season in charge of the Isthmian Premier outfit and, with player-assistant Ben Greenhalgh last month committing to stay, he’s confident more will follow suit soon.

“It’s going okay to be honest,” he said.

“Obviously, there’s lots of people that we’re talking to. There’s a lot of things from other teams on social media as well.

“It’s tough but, hopefully, we will get a few done this week.”

Asked if they would be new additions or players remaining at Hartsdown Park, Prestedge replied: “Hopefully, a bit of both!

“We have not announced anything at the moment.

“Players have been away - and rightly so. Players need a break before they get back into it but hopefully we can make a few good announcements.”

One definitely leaving the Kent Senior Cup winners will be left-back Taylor Fisher after an injury-hit season.

Prestedge explained: “I had a conversation with Taylor. He’s a great lad.

“He had some issues with his ankle that he wasn’t happy about. He wants to get them seen.

“We’ve left it on a mutual thing where he just needs to get himself back.

“It’s just one of those things where we have to make decisions.”

Margate plan to hold an open trial on Saturday, June 17, from 11am until 1pm.

Prestedge said: “We have had quite a lot [of interest], to be honest. We have had a good response to it.

“You never know. There might be some players that we invite in for pre-season.”

Players that would like to take part should email a footballing CV to secretary@margate-fc.com
