Young Margate striker Harvey Smith nets twice in Isthmian Premier 3-2 defeat to Potters Bar and 3-1 Kent Senior Cup success over Thanet rivals Ramsgate

Harvey Smith is finishing Margate’s season strongly and manager Reece Prestedge admits the teenager has lots of potential.

Striker Smith bagged both goals as they ended the Isthmian Premier campaign with a 3-2 home defeat against Potters Bar on Saturday.

“I’m pleased for Harvey,” said Prestedge.

“We have always known Harvey can get on the scoresheet and produce something.

“It’s nice he's got some goals in the last games of the season.”

Smith joined the Hartsdown Park outfit last summer and had a dual-registration spell with Southern Counties East Premier Division Glebe.

He struck in Gate’s 3-1 home Kent Senior Cup Semi-Final success over Thanet rivals Ramsgate last Tuesday.

Prestedge said: “He’s only 19 so he’s got loads of time.

“He just needs to pick the right choices with what he does in the next few weeks.

“If he gets it right and cracks on, he could be a good striker in this league and maybe the league above.

“He has a lot to learn but a lot of potential, as well, which is nice.”

There was little riding on 17th-placed Gate's clash with Potters Bar, although Prestedge was still frustrated to lose.

He reflected: "We had nothing to play for but it was just one of those where everyone couldn’t wait to finish the season.

"There were silly mistakes for the goals that don’t usually happen.

“Last home game of the season, you want to win it, so that side of it was disappointing.”

Margate’s other goals against Ramsgate came from player-assistant Ben Greenhalgh and midfielder Yaser Kasim. They took advantage of an early sending-off to Rams striker Kane Rowland before away midfielder TJ Jadama got a late consolation in front of a crowd of almost 1,500.

They’ll meet Isthmian South East champions Chatham in the Final at Gillingham FC next Wednesday.
