Still problems on Shipbourne Road, Tonbridge

The A227 Shipbourne Road remains closed this morning, with South East Water still trying to repair the road after a burst water main.

There were three bursts in the main yesterday afternoon, around 4pm.

Two have been fixed, but a break in a 15ins main by Cherry Tree Road proved more difficult with part of the road surface has been damaged by the water.

South East Water’s head of networks, Jim MacIntyre, said: “Our experts have worked through the night to repair the final burst pipe at the junction of Willow Lea and A227 Shipbourne Road.

“All customers’ tap water supplies were restored late last night although they may find their water is discoloured due to naturally occurring deposits of iron and manganese. This is not harmful and normal after an interruption to their water supply.

“Our priority now is to repair the road surface of Shipbourne Road and reopen it as soon as it is safe to do so.

“Our Customer Care Team delivered bottled water to customers on our Priority Services Register and to the Towngate Wood retirement park.

“In total, 97 customers reported having no water or low pressure.

“We would like to thank everyone for their continued patience during these emergency repairs, as well as Kent Police and Kent Highways for their assistance.

“Customers can register for text and email updates on future water work in their area using our interactive map inyourarea.digdat.co.uk or call us 24/7 on 0333 000 0365 in an emergency.”

A Kent Highways spokesman said: "Use caution and expect delays in the area."
