A company devastated by a huge fire has opened its doors to customers just hours after destroying a building.

Gaza Timber, situated at Gaza Trading Estate, Hildenborough, suffered huge amounts of damage during the blaze which took hold on Sunday at around 7pm.

Ten fire engines from Kent, London and Surrey's fire services were called to the fire which destroyed the timber business's building.

Despite the damage they were determined to reopen today and have done so.

A Facebook post read: "In case you haven’t seen the news I’m sorry to say we had a fire at Gaza yesterday evening which has completely destroyed our building.

"Thankfully no one was hurt or injured and the fire crew managed to contain the blaze and stop it spreading.

"We wish to stress that while we are somewhat devastated we are determined to carry on trading and will be open for business as usual tomorrow morning.

"We still have all our sawn timber, lots of sheet materials, aggregates, some mouldings and PAR so please come on down.

"Thank you so much for your all kind offers of help and support. It means a lot to us to know we have so many good friends."

Firefighters left the trading estate on Monday afternoon more than 18 hours after the fire broke out.

The fire service said everyone had been accounted for and there were no injuries.

People living close by were asked to close their windows and doors as a precaution as the plume of smoke was so big.

Firefighting continued at the site at 7am on Bank Holiday Monday, but the number of fire engines had been scaled back to four overnight.

At 12.30pm, the fire service said firefighting had been scaled back even further, but crews were still finding deep seated hot spots of fire.

A digger was being used to help break up the debris to expose the pockets of fire and firefighters were using a main jet to extinguish them.

The fire was put out by 2.30pm and the road closures in the area were lifted.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said the cause of the fire had been investigated but the cause remains unknown.

Gaza Timber is open today and operating from its bungalow opposite its old premises.
