A228 Maidstone Road at Five Oak Green near Pembury and Paddock Wood closed after Ford Fiesta crashed into telegraph pole

A driver fled the scene of a crash after their car hit a telegraph pole in the early hours of the morning.

Police were called to Colts Hill, near Five Oak Green after a Ford Fiesta was found damaged in the road at 2.30am.

The A228 Maidstone Road – section between Pembury and Paddock Wood – around the village was closed to allow recovery works to take place.

BT engineers are set to carry out repairs to safely remove the pole and wiring.

No other vehicles were involved.

Police say they are continuing to carry out inquiries to locate the driver.

The road reopened at about 10.15am.
