Wrotham: Junior Lowe jailed after driving the wrong way up the M26 to evade police

A reckless driver who fled police at speeds of 110mph and drove the wrong way down a motorway has been jailed.

Junior Lowe was being chased by officers who suspected him of driving while disqualified in the early hours of February 23.

Having left the M25 and joined the coastbound M20, Lowe hit speeds of 110mph, and as he reached the junction with the M26 slip road at junction 3 for Maidstone, he turned and headed up the M26 in the wrong direction.

The 34-year-old travelled two miles up the carriageway before carrying out a three-point turn and heading back the way he'd come.

He then left the M26 to travel down the A20 London Road in Wrotham.

This is where he was arrested by police officers after they stopped his vehicle.

Lowe, from Catford, has now been sentenced to 16 months in prison at Maidstone Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, and driving without insurance.

Police Constable Guy Ditcher from the serious collision investigation unit said: "The manner of Junior Lowe's driving presented a very clear and dangerous threat to the public.

"It was 3.30am, it was dark, and drivers would have suddenly and unexpectedly come across someone driving at speed straight towards them.

"It is very fortunate that no one was injured in this incident.

"I'm pleased that the courts have recognised the seriousness of this offence with a custodial sentence."
