An organisation tackling youth unemployment in west Kent is calling for young people to take part in a new skills course.

The programme will be based in Manor Grove, Tonbridge and will help tackle unemployment in the west of the county.

It hopes to give 16-25 year-olds the skills and confidence to find a job. They will take part in team building activities, a week long residential trip, a community project and two weeks of work experience.

They will also receive on how to write CVs as well as gaining nationally recognised qualifications.

Three in four young people on Prince’s Trust schemes move into work, education or training.

Jon Weller, head of community services at Voluntary Action Kent said: “A barrier into employment, education or training for many young people is a lack of confidence or self-belief.

"Many can feel that they don’t have the right skills or talents, and that they’ll never amount to anything. The Team Programme is an exciting, engaging and dynamic course designed to turn young people’s lives around.

"Over the 12 week programme participants will develop the confidence, motivation and skills to help springboard into employment, education, training, volunteering or apprenticeships.”

An information day is being held at TCA Hall, Manor Grove in Tonbridge at 10am and 3pm on Friday, November 21.

Courses are due to begin mid January after recruitment is complete.
