Tonbridge manager Tommy Warrilow admitted his team’s pulsating last minute fight backs in their previous two matches was stretching the need to entertain beyond the call of duty.

Ryman League Premier Division play-off contenders Tonbridge fought back from 2-0 down in the final five minutes to earn a 2-2 draw at second placed Staines. On Saturday they scored goals in the 87th, 89th and 90th minutes to beat Ashford (Middlesex) 3-2 before an ecstatic crowd at Longmead.

“I’m all for entertaining football but maybe we’re taking things a bit too far because these comebacks have set my heart racing,” said Warrilow. “If I was wired up to one of these Football Association heart monitors I don’t know what it would tell you.

“I think we scored Saturday’s winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Our supporters went wild and I’m sure they, like me, found the adrenalin was still pumping when they got home.

“Now, I’m hoping the town of Tonbridge will respond to what we’re trying to do at the club and turn out in greater numbers because we need our supporters now more than ever.”

Warrilow is hoping that injured trio Ade Olorunda, Fraser Logan, Phil Starkey and John Westcott report no new setbacks after playing for the reserves in midweek so they can join the squad for Saturday’s Kent derby at Dartford.

Defender Leon Legge and striker Jamie Cade both miss the games through suspensions while injury-plagued Michael Phillips left the club this week in an attempt to establish himself elsewhere.

Tim Olorunda, who was sent off against Ashford, starts his suspension on Saturday week.
