Angels stun Oxford in Trophy

Tonbridge 1 Oxford 0

TONBRIDGE ANGELS pulled off one of the greatest wins in their history with a 1-0 FA Trophy first round replay victory over Blue Square Premier side Oxford United at the Longmead Stadium on Tuesday.

Hamid Barr's first half goal proved to be the difference between the two sides with Tom Warrilow's side forced to hang on for long periods in the second half.

And the Angels had keeper Matt Reed to thank when he got down brilliantly to his left to turn away Eddie Hutchinson's header after 50 minutes.

Barr had a good chance to put the game out of Oxford's reach late on but his shot was well saved by Sam Worrell.

Tonbridge were forced to defend with nine men late on when Scott Kinch was shown a second yellow card for abusive language and Barr was given a second caution for time wasting.

Angels manager Tom Warrilow said: "It's a magnificent result. I thought Saturday's performance put us in better stead for tonight. We had nothing to fear.

"We said before that we're not going to get our own way against teams like this. They're two leagues above us so we're not going to get our own way and we've got to learn to deal with that.

"In the second half we knew they were going to come at us. They went four up with about half an hour to go and that tells you what their intention was.

"We managed to deal with that and I'm absolutely delighted."
