Tonbridge Angels join the Bayern Munich club after conceding twice in injury time

Steve McKimm was in philosophical mood this week after Tonbridge were beaten by two injury-time goals against Chelmsford.

Angels were heading for back-to-back wins for the first time this season after Khale Da Costa's early goal on Saturday but Chris Whelpdale and Shaun Jeffers struck in added time to give the visitors a 2-1 win.

It's the second time Tonbridge have lost at the death this season - going down 1-0 at Hampton - but they also scored a last-gasp winner against Concord.

McKimm, whose side remain 19th in National League South, said: "We should have defended both goals better - we know that - but we've had a chat about it and we move on.

"Is it going to happen again? Probably. Are we going to score in the 90th minute again? Probably. That's football.

"Funnier things have happened.

"Look at Man United winning the European Cup in '99 with those two goals at the end against Bayern Munich.

"People say it shouldn't happen but that's why we love football because unexpected things do happen.

"If it can happen to the best players in the world, it can happen to part-time players.

"As much as we were gutted to throw away some points, you get over it and move on.

"I've learnt a lot in the last year. When we were doing well at the start of last season we were calm and when we had that bad spell I felt pressure on myself and wondered where the next point was coming from.

"But after Christmas we kicked on and we ended up getting promoted.

"No one's got a given right to win a game.

"Saturday could be classed as a disaster but it's also a positive because for 92 minutes we're beating a side who've been in the play-offs the last four years.

"If I get down in the dumps the players feel that vibe, so it's important we look forward and prepare for another huge game at Wealdstone on Saturday."

Wealdstone are five points clear at the top of the table after 11 wins from 13 games.

McKimm went to watch their FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay against Maidenhead on Tuesday night and admires the job Dean Brennan is doing in north west London.

The Angels boss said: "Dean's a fantastic manager and he's got a very good side there.

"He's one of the managers who's helped me out this season and it will be good to see him.

"We're under no illusions how tough it's going to be.

"Some people might say we'll be easy pickings but Dean knows we'll be organised and Wealdstone will have to be at their best to beat us.

"Sometimes when the odds are against us we're a tall order to deal with.

"We beat Concord when they were top and drew at Bath when they were top.

"Listen, I'm not saying we're going to get any points but we want to and we'll try to."

Tonbridge have extended Jack Rudoni's loan from AFC Wimbledon into a second month.

The 17-year-old midfielder has impressed at Longmead although the Dons have a 24-hour call-back option.
