Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm says Bishop's Stortford display won't happen again

Steve McKimm is confident there will be no repeat of the performance that cost Tonbridge their unbeaten record.

Angels' lead at the top of the Bostik Premier is down to two points after their first defeat of the season.

They'd conceded only once in seven matches before hosting Bishop's Stortford on Saturday but found themselves 3-0 down after an hour.

Adem Ramadan and Craig Stone replied but Stortford held on.

Boss McKimm said: "It just wasn't a good performance from us.

"Put it this way, I don't think it'll happen again because the boys have got too much character to let it happen again.

"We huffed and puffed to try and get ourselves back into it.

"I'd have taken an equaliser but in all honesty I don't think we deserved it.

"We didn't play well for large periods of the game.

"We've set high standards, we just didn't reach them as individuals and it culminated in defeat."

Last night's (Wednesday) match at Kingstonian was postponed due to floodlight problems, with Angels back in action at home to Potters Bar this Saturday.

Top scorer Alex Read and midfielder Craig Stone are injury doubts, so on-loan Maidstone youngster Jack Richards could feature after coming off the bench against Stortford.

Richards is with Tonbridge for a month and has plenty of ability.

McKimm spoke to former Stones boss Jay Saunders before making a move.

He said: "Jack did well when he came on.

"He knew there were no guarantees when I signed him but he'll certainly get more minutes here for the next month than he would have done at Maidstone.

"We'll see where it takes us and him.

"Jay rated him highly - he just couldn't get him into the side.

"I spoke to him again when he became available and also to Harry Wheeler, who was very helpful.

"The boy's got talent, he works hard, he's got desire and he wants to play football.

"We've got six or seven games in the month, so he will get minutes."

Tonbridge host Sevenoaks in the League Cup first round on Tuesday.
