Tunbridge Wells council to fine people who break traffic ban after 1,000 warnings this month

A local authority has said drivers who break a town centre traffic ban will be fined.

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council made the announcement on September 26 after explaining it had already issued more than 1,000 warnings to motorists travelling through the no go zone near the town hall that month.

It said: "Since the start of September we have issued over 1,000 warning notices to motorists travelling through the restricted area in Mount Pleasant Road.

"If you are driving through town please make sure that you avoid this area between 9am–6pm as we're now issuing Penalty Charge Notices."

Some residents weren't happy with the news.

Matt Goss said: "How will you be differentiating between those cars flouting the restrictions and those lawfully accessing the residential and commercial properties?"

While David Brown added: "Or you could just remove the restriction because it's stupid. It should either be open to traffic or closed."
