A26 London Road in Southborough, Tunbridge Wells, blocked after crash

A road has been blocked in both directions after a serious accident.

One witness at the site of the crash, near the old library and fire station at the junction of Yew Tree Road, explained around eight emergency service vehicles were in attendance.

An air ambulance has also been seen landing at a nearby field.

Another woman, who works nearby, added: “I was sweeping in the shop and heard a loud bang.

“Police and paramedics arrived around five minutes later and the road has been closed.

“Myself and other rushed over to help a man who had crashed into a tree or bench.”

There is congestion on the A21 Tonbridge Bypass southbound, with northbound queues back into Tunbridge Wells to Mount Ephraim.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 11.15am to a serious collision involving a car and a pedestrian at a location near Yew Tree Road, Southborough.

“Officers and ambulance crews are currently at the scene and road closures are in place.”

The ambulance service has been approached for more information.
