Firefighters tackle woodland blaze in Tunbridge Wells after sweltering heat

Firefighters battled a woodland blaze late into the night after one of the hottest days of the year.

The cause of the inferno, which broke out deep in woodland in Tunbridge Wells at around 8pm, is currently unknown.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service scrambled crews in three engines who extinguished the flames and dampened down the area, off Greggs Wood Road, until about 11pm.

There were no reported injuries and the agency is currently working to establish the fire’s cause.

A fire service sposkesman said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a large fire in deep woodland off of Greggs Wood Road, in Tunbridge Wells.

“Three fire engines attended, and crews worked to being the blaze under control.

“There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is not yet known.”

It came during one of the hottest days of the year, with highs of 30.C in some areas of the county - while forcasters say it will be warm all week.
