Emergency SGN gas works continue on Pembury Road, Tunbridge Wells

There is “severe” traffic disruption as emergency gas works continue.

The A264 Pembury Road, in Tunbridge Wells, is expected to be closed for at least another fortnight after it was sealed off earlier this week.

Engineers from gas firm SGN are completing urgent repairs near its junction with Halls Hole Road.

Temporary traffic lights are in place at the junction with Blackhurst Lane and there is no left turn from Blackhurst Lane into Pembury Road.

There are also closures on Halls Hole Road and Cornford Lane. Signed diversions are in place.

Kent County Council’s (KCC) highways team have told drivers to expect delays in the area and allow extra time for any journeys.

Earlier this morning, bus firm Arriva said there was “severe disruption” to its service 6 from Tunbridge Wells to Maidstone.

It advised passengers to use the 277 service to get to Pembury Hospital.

Works are expected to be complete on Friday, June 21, according to KCC Highways, however, a spokesperson for SGN said it is still “unclear” how long the repairs will take.

They added: “This is a complex repair as the affected low-pressure pipe is located close to other utility pipes.

“This is further complicated by the thickness of the road surface here as we need to use specialist drilling equipment to access and carry out the required repairs.

“We recognise this is a sensitive traffic location and roadworks can be frustrating for motorists, residents and businesses.

“However, these works are essential to ensuring Tunbridge Wells properties continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.”
