Flood warnings for River Medway and River Eden in Kent due to heavy rainfall

Flood warnings have been issued to villages along two rivers as heavy rainfall overnight is expected to cause their banks to be breached.

The Environment Agency (EA) has warned of early morning flooding tomorrow along the River Medway.

The governing body is expecting low-lying land areas and roads around Forest Row, Ashurst, Hartfield and Penshurst near Sevenoaks to be affected.

Areas surrounding the River Eden have also been given the same warning with people being told to avoid areas and roads around Water Lane and Haxted Road near Edenbridge.

The EA says it is monitoring the situation on both rivers, with incident response teams checking and clearing blockages when needed.

People have been asked to avoid using footpaths near watercourses in the area and to plan driving routes to avoid roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

Updates will be shared by tomorrow or as the situation changes.
