Paddock Wood fire broke out at Bidfood depot, Transfesa Road

A food wholesaler is co-operating with the fire service to find out why its oil container exploded at the weekend.

Fire crews rushed to the scene at the Bidfood depot on Transfesa Road, Paddock Wood just after 1pm on Saturday, December 1.

The blast shook windows and doors in the area and was heard as far as six miles away.

Derek Moore, general manager of Paddock Wood, Bidfood said: "I can confirm that yesterday one of our fuel storage facilities caught fire outside our Paddock Wood depot.

"Kent Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene promptly and brought the fire under control, and thankfully no-one was harmed. We’d like to extend our thanks to Kent Fire and Rescue for their quick response.

"Safety is our highest priority and we are cooperating fully with the Fire Service and the Environment Agency to understand the causes of the incident and help them with any information they need.”

The depot are operating as usual today and trading has not been affected.
