Man involved in a crash on the A229 near Staplehurst close to the junction with the B2079 Maidstone Road has died

A Marden man involved in a crash near Staplehurst has died from his injuries.

The collision happened on the A229 close to the junction with the B2079 Maidstone Road, at around 5pm on Monday.

It involved a Land Rover Discovery and a blue Volkswagen Golf.

The driver of the Golf, a 63-year-old local man, was taken to a hospital in London with life threatening injuries and died yesterday.

The driver of the Land Rover, a man in his 40s, was also injured and taken to a local hospital.

He has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed until Sunday, June 5 while investigations continue.

Officers are particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw the vehicles between 4.45pm and 5.15pm.

Sgt Scott Lynch, of Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This occurred at a very busy time of the day and when a large amount of people would have been in the area.

"We believe there may have been a number of motorists who may have information, but who perhaps may not have been able to stop at the time.

"If you saw anything please get in touch as soon possible."
