The road which forms the main route through the village was shut yesterday evening between the Royal Oak pub and the A21 at Flimwell – three miles away.

Traffic is being diverted via the A229 Rye Road to the A21 at Coopers Corner.

National Highways says the A21 has been closed in both directions between the B2169 (Lamberhurst) and the A268 (Flimwell) for a Sussex Police incident.

“Traffic on approach is being diverted via local routes,” it said.

Sussex Police is appealing for information after responding to a serious road traffic collision in Hawkhurst Road, Flimwell, on Thursday evening.

“Officers are working to establish the circumstances of the incident which occurred at about 6pm,” a spokesperson for the force said.

“The road from the junction with the A21 for about half a mile east, will remain closed overnight and into Friday while investigative work is carried out and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

“Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage are asked to report online or ring 101 quoting Operation Colchester.”

Sussex Police were contacted for more information about the collision.
