The road was shut between the junctions for Potter’s Lane and Park Lane while the carriageway was being made safe.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On arrival crews found one female driver trapped by her injuries in one of the vehicles, another female was out of her vehicle.

"Crews worked with paramedics to assess the trapped woman's injuries before she was cut free from the vehicle, as the firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to remove the driver's door.

"She was transferred into the care of the air ambulance team and airlifted to hospital. The other female was cared for by SECAMB paramedics and taken to hospital. Crews made the scene safe."

South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance have been contacted for comment.
