Air ambulance called to serious incident in Joy Lane, Whitstable

An air ambulance was called after a woman was struck by a car.

It happened at 5.40pm yesterday (Tuesday) at Joy Lane, Whitstable, at the junction with Borstal Hill.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "The collision involved a car and a female pedestrian.

"Officers and ambulance crews attended and the woman was taken to a local hospital."

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "The person was treated at the scene before being taken to William Harvey Hospital by road with potentially serious injuries.

"The air ambulance team joined us in our vehicle to help treat the patient en route to hospital."

One fire engine was also sent out and a spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to assist Kent Police and crews helped make the scene safe."

Firefighters were present for just under 40 minutes.

Emergency services blocked access to Joy Lane as they dealt with the accident.

The road was reopened later that evening but police officers remained in the area carrying out enquiries.
