TikTok star known for slagging off Kent reviews Whitstable

A comedian who has gone viral for repeatedly insulting Kent has come back to review one of the county’s most loved seaside towns.

Phil Carr, who has made a career online out of travelling the country doing hilarious reviews of various areas, uploaded his latest video to social media over the weekend – this time critiquing Whitstable.

The three-minute video has been viewed more than 64,000 times on Facebook in the past 48 hours.

“We’re in Kent which means I don’t want to be here, you don’t want to see it,” began the 38-year-old.

While he still makes digs at Whitstable during the video, Phil is far less scathing than in his reviews of other parts of the county – some of which he has described as “worse than prison colonies”. The content creator poked fun about controversial sewage releases on the town’s coastline.

He said: “One fun fact is it used to be called Whitstable-on-Sea, but then they ran some tests on this mystery fluid in front of me and found that it was more sewage than seawater.

“They have the most ornate bookies I’ve ever seen, the quaintest pound shop and Whites of Kent. To be fair, that’s how most of them want to keep it.

“There are some really pretty houses, but because it’s Kent everybody speaks with the same accent as football hooligans and none of them pick up after their dogs.

“Whitstable, I have no idea what all the fuss is about.”

Despite his jibes, Phil encourages visitors to “eat seafood and get drunk” whilst cracking jokes about the recent rise of DFLs in the area, branding them as “Whitstable’s victims”.

Sampling some of the local fish at the Peter Cushing Wetherspoons, he acknowledges the town's popularity with London-based travellers.

“Amazing, Whitstable attracts a lot of tourists, mainly because of its proximity to London and it’s run by Canterbury City Council, who are no strangers into deceiving tourists to visit,” said Mr Carr.

“Despite being from Kent, Whitstable does attract a lot of people from the big city.

“Most of Whitstable’s victims from London just come for the day, buy some food and drink, maybe a painting, then get back to the city.

“But the really gullible ones come and get an Airbnb for a few nights without realising you could actually see London from here.”

The comedian has previously ripped into towns all over Kent, including the likes of Canterbury, Sheerness, Dover and Chatham in his tongue-in-cheek posts.

Despite his self-proclaimed “hate-hate” relationship with the county, the father-of-one is getting softer in his stance towards the county’s settlements – going as far as telling people to come to Whitstable as “it’s really nice”.

So far, reaction has been positive to the video – with many offering their views on Mr Carr and the town itself.

One fan wrote: “Summed up my beautifully ****** home town perfectly! Why people want to come here to eat fresh seafood out of our sewage-polluted seas is beyond me.”

Another noted his changing attitude towards Kent, joking: “Praise the lord. One of your posts almost praising somewhere in Kent. You will be moving here soon.”

Others questioned his choice of restaurant, with one saying: “Why oh why did you sample seafood at a Wetherspoons?”

KentOnline previously joined Phil on one of his visits to the county, in an attempt to show him that Cliftonville isn’t all that bad.

He told us: "I crack jokes about places all over the country.

"Everywhere else has laughed it off, but not Kent - they take things very personally here.”
