Whitstable resident Simon Paisley Day stars in Sky drama This England about Boris Johnson

A Kent resident stars in a new series about Boris Johnson's first months as prime minister tonight.

Simon Paisley Day, who was born in Gillingham and lives in Whitstable, will appear as former chief adviser to the PM Dominic Cummings.

This England, which also stars Oscar winner Sir Kenneth Branagh as Mr Johnson, is a six-part docudrama series tracing the impact on the country of the first wave of the pandemic.

It focuses on the start of the Covid outbreak, Brexit, the former prime minister's battle with Covid and his son's birth.

Simon Paisley Day has starred in numerous films and TV shows, including Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Doctor Who and Whitstable Pearl.

Episode one airs tonight, with Sky Atlantic's synopsis stating: "Boris Johnson wins the 2019 General Election and prepares for government.

"Covid-19 emerges in Wuhan and cases rise in China, then spread across Asia and to Europe.

"Boris prepares for Britain leaving the European Union while scientists monitor the spread of the virus.

"Dominic Cummings makes plans to shake up the civil service and reform how the government operates.

"Boris spends time at Chevening and Chequers as Covid spreads around the world and storms hit the UK.

"The situation in Italy escalates as hospitals in the north struggle with Covid cases, meanwhile the first cases are reported in the UK."

This England is on Sky Atlantic tonight at 9pm and streaming service NOW.
