Whitstable: RNLI lifeboat Lewisco launched three times in three days

A lifeboat crew has had a busy week, having been called out to three separate incidents in one week.

Atlantic 85 Lifeboat Lewisco, stationed at Whitstable, was launched at 12.45am on Thursday to assist a 12-foot angling boat with one person onboard seen drifting off the coast near the town.

The lifeboat crew - helmed by Rob Judge and Dave Perry - located the craft about half a mile away from a shoreside pub, The Neptune, and took the craft and its occupant ashore via a ramp at the harbour.

The second call-out occurred on Saturday afternoon, when the lifeboat was launched at 5.17pm following two reports of a windsurfer in difficulties off the Hotel Continental.

The lifeboat arrived at the scene and was waved down by persons on shore handling a green sail.

A lifeboat crewmember went ashore and confirmed that this was the casualty and no assistance was required.

Later on Saturday, at 7.45pm, the lifeboat was requested to launch following a report from Kent Police of a female threatening to enter the water between Herne Bay clock tower and the pier.

However the lifeboat was ‘stood down’ when it was confirmed the person was now in the care of the police.
