Keeper Jordan Perrin on working with Whitstable Town goalkeeping coach Dan Eason and aiming to get Southern Counties East Premier Division promotion with the Oystermen

Jordan Perrin is loving working alongside Whitstable goalkeeping coach Dan Eason.

Perrin has been manager Marcel Nimani’s first choice since he signed this January and wants to help Whitstable secure an Isthmian League return.

Eason had started the campaign between the sticks for the Oystermen but is focusing more on coaching.

While it’s a slightly unorthodox situation, it’s one which appears to be working.

Perrin said: “I’ve known Dan for a good few years. Probably, for four or five seasons now, I’ve been playing against him.

“He’s a great guy and a great goalkeeping coach - he has sort of decided to step aside from playing a bit.

“Having to follow in his footsteps is a big task because he’s made more than 300 appearances for the club. But, hopefully, I’m doing well.

“To be able to learn from someone with his experience, that’s fantastic.”

Whitstable, whose scheduled weekend match at bottom side Welling Town was postponed after a failed morning pitch inspection, are just outside the play-off places in seventh - and have played more league games than most teams above them.

But Perrin has already tasted play-off glory with rivals Herne Bay and thinks the Oystermen are good enough to earn a top-five finish.

“Sometimes, the play-offs are the best way to go up,” he said.

“I’ve been in Play-off Finals and Semi-Finals before. I think we can get there.

“We just need to keep grinding until the last game. Some teams have games in hand - but they present points for them to drop, as well.

“I think we have got a massive chance to get in there and then we can show what we’re capable of.”

It didn’t take Perrin long to settle at The Belmont upon his arrival from Erith & Belvedere.

Perrin, who has also played at Sittingbourne after starting out at Arsenal, said: “I knew a few of the boys.

“Liam Gillies, I played with him for Kent and Medway when I was younger. I went to school with George Sheminant - he was the year below me.

“I had played a lot of them before. I’ve been at a few clubs - but I’m a confident person anyway - and I just get stuck in.

“It’s one of the best squads I’ve seen in non-league football. They have been really welcoming.

“The fans are fantastic. Having played against them before, I’ve been on the other side of them - but they’re great. I’ve really loved my time at Whitstable.”

The Oystermen are set to return to competitive action at home to mid-table Fisher this Saturday, with the St Paul's Sports Ground side difficult to predict.

They have beaten Deal, Bearsted and Erith Town at home this term but took just a point from games against strugglers Welling Town and Stansfeld last December.

“I’ve never played Fisher before,” revealed Perrin. “But I’ve seen some of their results this season and they have pulled off some shock results.

“We will prepare the right way. We will look on Thursday night at how to approach the game.

“We just need to pick up as many points as possible and another clean sheet would be good.”

Perrin is himself coaching and has attracted plenty of interest in footage of matches he records which is then published on YouTube at @PerrinGoalkeeping and on Instagram.

“I literally started filming myself mid-last season,” the 24-year-old explained.

“I had a few games where I wasn’t happy with my performances. I only really did it initially to see how I could improve.

“But someone said ‘Put it out there’ and everyone has taken well to it. I can show how, when I make a mistake, I improve from it.

“I’ve started my coaching academy as well - based initially in Sheppey but, hopefully, it’ll branch out.”

Whitstable beat Kent County League Ashford 11-0 in a friendly on Tuesday.
