Lorry driver who hit Newtown Road bridge in Ashford summonsed after crash

The driver of a lorry which hit a bridge yesterday has been accused of careless driving.

Newtown Road in Ashford saw an hours-long closure on both lanes following the incident, which occurred at 7.40am.

The Network Rail-owned bridge experienced superficial damage. The driver has been summoned to court.

A police spokeswoman said: "Kent Police was called to a single-vehicle collision in Newtown Road, Willesborough at around 7.40am on Tuesday, October 8.

"There were no reported injuries and the road was closed to assist in recovering the vehicle."
