A US diner and takeaway will be open until 11pm every day following a controversial approval decision.

Burger Base, which is set to launch soon in Faversham Road in Kennington, will now be able to remain open until 11pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

This late opening time means the American site will run from 8am to 11pm every day.

Permission was granted for the hours extension earlier this month following a mixed reaction from nearby residents.

Paula Waterman said: "Sunday afternoon was the only time that offered some respite from the relentless noise, smell, litter and anti-social behaviour that this new business will potentially create."

She also worried that a lack of parking could see more people stopping off in front of neighbours' driveways.

However others, like Alex Little, refuted these criticisms, saying: "Do people want nothing in this town?

"I live on top of the Kennington Tandoori. What smell?

"We have never had a problem with parking - people have nothing better to do with their life than to moan."

In recommending approval, an Ashford Borough Council planning officer found no potential issues with the extended hours.

"I have taken into consideration the concerns raised by the neighbours," they wrote.

"However, the addition of hours on Sundays and Bank Holidays would have no greater impact on residential amenity and the use would not be unacceptably intensified."

With one planning application down, Burger Base is still without any signs after they were taken down in mid-February due to a lack of permission.

No application for advertisement consent has yet been lodged by owner Ash Miah, who also runs the Tandoori next door and Cinnamon Spice at Eureka Place.

Meanwhile, the Kennington Co-op just up the road from Burger Base will be getting a makeover if its new application is approved.

The grocery store chain hopes to rejuvenate its branding, replacing the current green sign reading 'The Co-operative food' with a simplistic 'Co-op' logo.

The illuminated logo will be joined with an additional one hanging off the side of the building.

Last month, managers at the store revealed plans for an Amazon locker at the front of the shop and changes to the car park.
