Two arrests after armed police called to Charing near Ashford following 'altercation'

Two men have been arrested after an 'altercation' in a village left three people injured.

Armed police were called to Charing near Ashford following the incident on the point-to-point racecourse off the A252.

Officers were alerted just before 7pm on Sunday and have now arrested two men from Lydd on the Romney Marsh.

The first, aged 20, has been arrested on suspicion of assault and malicious communications.

A 45-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of assault.

They have both been released on bail until September 3 while the investigation continues.

Two of those hurt in the incident were taken to the William Harvey Hospital for treatment to injuries which were not described as serious.

On Sunday evening, multiple ambulances were spotted on the A20 near Hothfield as emergency crews headed to the village.

About eight armed officers were seen in the Charing fire station car park in School Road at 8.30pm.
