Witnesses say smoke was seen coming from the wreckage, with fire crews joining police and paramedics at the scene in Bexley.

The baby was rescued from the car and handed over to ambulance crews for medical assessment.

KentOnline understands there were no signs of injury, but the infant and a woman were taken to hospital to be checked over.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “We sent an ambulance crew to the scene who arrived in less than seven minutes.

“We checked over a woman and a baby and took them to hospital.”

A cordon was set up around the crash site for investigation and public safety.
