Canterbury Rugby Club crashed to fourth successive defeat in National League 2 South on Saturday, losing 31-15 at promotion-chasing Jersey.

The visitors should have struck first in the match but a potential scoring pass from Carlton Littlewood to Jake Chapman failed to find its target.

From then on Jersey’s pack began to control the game. Josh Chamier powered over to score the opening try and the second was scored by David Boherty, as he burst down the wing.

Skipper Matt Pinnick (pictured) went over to reduce the arrears but that was cancelled out when Jersey were awarded a penalty try following a collapsed scrum.

Canterbury defended the latter stages well, even with the loss of Max Cantwell, who was sin-binned for preventing the taking of a quick penalty.
The home side did, however, score another two tries before Michael Melford’s last minute interception try closed the gap at the end.

Canterbury are at home this Saturday against fifth-placed Old Albanians.
