Woman injured in A2 crash between Bean and Northfleet still in serious condition in London hospital

A woman remains in a critical condition in hospital 12 days after a serious crash on the A2.

The passenger had been travelling in a Ford Fiesta when it was involved in a collision between the Bean Interchange and Ebbsfleet turn-off at around 10.40pm on February 16.

The driver and a second passenger were also treated for injuries and later discharged.

Two suspects were arrested four days after the crash.

Matthew Sparkes, of no fixed address, was charged with causing serious injury by driving dangerously; failing to stop following a collision where others were injured; failing to give a name and address or make a report at a police station following a collision where others were injured, and driving without insurance.

The 35-year-old was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on March 20.

A 25-year-old woman from Walworth, Greater London who was also arrested in connection with the incident was bailed to return to the police station, pending further enquiries.

The coastbound carriageway was shut for more than 15 hours near Bluewater shopping centre in Dartford immediately after the incident, which involved a black Ford Fiesta, a blue Audi S3 and a blue MG HS.

The driver of the blue Audi S3 along with his female passenger had left the scene before patrols arrived and Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) started an investigation.

The road was closed until 3pm the following day causing traffic chaos to surrounding areas.

Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them if they have not yet spoken to the police.
