Former Southend United striker Norman Wabo signs for Dartford after a trial with Gillingham

Striker Norman Wabo has signed for Dartford after failing to win a deal with Gillingham.

The former Southend United youngster scored against the Gills in pre-season and was offered a trial.

He played for the Gills in a pre-season match at Welling, which the Gills lost 5-0, and wasn't offered a deal.

Dartford, who have had major injury problems upfront throughout pre-season, were quick to snap the striker up after the Gills said no thanks. He's the second new forward to arrive before their weekend game with Wealdstone.

A statement from joint managers Adam Flanagan and Jamie Coyle said: ”Norman is a someone we watched on a few occasions last season but wasn’t able to bring to the club.

"He is an exciting young player who showcased glimpses of what he will be able to offer us this season in the few pre-season games he played in.

"He had a great goal scoring record while at Southend and if we can provide him with the chances then we feel he has the potential to score a lot of goals this season.”

Wabo, now 21, has previously played for both Ebbsfleet United and Maidstone United on loan.

The striker became a free agent in the summer after his release by League 1 side Southend, where despite limited first-team appearances he had been a regular goalscorer in their under-23 team.

Also joining the Darts is 31-year-old striker Adam Cunnington from Billericay Town.

He's also previously played in Kent, with Bromley and the Fleet.

The Dartford management duo commented: "Adam comes to us with a wealth of experience and on the back of scoring 23 goals in his last 37 games for Billericay.

"He was a crowd favourite at new Lodge and I expect him to be liked here as well with his tireless displays."
