Middle Street car park by Deal Library to close for resurfacing

A major car park in Deal will close this month for resurfacing.

The whole of Middle Street car park by Deal Library will be out of bounds for three days from Tuesday, February 26 to Thursday, February 28.

But parts of it will be prohibited from February 18 as new tarmac in laid for the first time more than two decades.

Martin Leggatt, head of assets for Dover District Council (DDC) said: “The surface of the Middle Street car park is nearly 25 years old, and because of the heavy usage it gets, it needs to be completely resurfaced.

"We are doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum, including carrying out the works during the quieter time of year.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and thank the local community in advance for bearing with us while we undertake this important work.”

The work carried out by local contractors, Ovenden Allworks, is due to take six weeks and will be split into three phases.

Half of the car park will remain open for phases one and two but the entire car park will be closed for for the final phase which is the resurfacing of the entrance and exit road.

DDC say it is working closely with local businesses, some of which use the car park for deliveries and waste collections, to identify alternative arrangements where possible, and to address any issues that might arise.

Signage will be in place.

Other DDC car parks in the town will remain open.
