By majority verdict, the jury took 10 hours and 44 minutes to find Mr McKeown not guilty at Canterbury Crown Court.

Mr Prescott told the jury Mr McKeown put him in so much pain it caused him to pass out on the pub decking.

But Mr McKeown, of London Road, Dover, denied causing grievous harm to Mr Prescott and also denies an alternative charge of causing actual harm.

“I did not try to gouge his eyes out,” Mr McKeown said.

“I saw Mr Prescott being restrained four or five feet away from me in a sleep hold.

“Someone had him round the neck, stopping him from attacking me. I could see him losing consciousness. I did not do anything to his face.”
