Avis Channel swimmers, going from Dover, raise nearly £4,500 for Age UK

Four people have smashed their target for Age UK after swimming the Channel.

By today they reaped £4,470.32, 11% above the aimed £4,000.

The relay team completed the task in 14 hours 49 minutes, going from Samphire Hoe in Dover.

Each swam for an hour at a time, braving water temperatures of 15 degrees.

The team were past and present members of Avis Budget Group car rental company.

The group, from Bracknell in Berkshire. were general manager Louisa Bell, employees Tom Mannion and Joanne Clarke and former colleague Ana Ojeda.

There is an Avis Car Hire base at Dover Eastern Docks and staff from Avis branches nationwide sponsored the swimmers for £21 or more.
