Conservative candidates take all seven KCC seats in local elections

It was a clean sweep for the Conservatives at the KCC County elections when all seven seats were claimed by the party’s candidates.

Four Labour hopefuls had to concede two divisions, previously held by Mike Eddy and Eileen Rowbotham (Deal and Walmer) and Pam Brivio and Gordon Cowan (Dover Town).

They have been replaced with Trevor Bond, Derek P Murphy, Pauline Beresford and Nigel Collor.

Change is also afoot in Sandwich where Cllr Sue Chandler, chairman of Dover District Council, was elected to replace Leyland Ridings (also Con) who chose not to stand again.

Now in Kent there are 67 Conservatives out of 81 seats. Ukip, the former official opposition, were totally wiped out.

It coincided with the election of two Labour councillors for the Dover District Council by-election. These are Nathaniel Richards for the Buckland Ward. He founded Dover's only social supermarket, selling cut price short dated goods to people on low incomes. And Ann Napier was elected to the Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory seat.
