Community sentence for £10,000 benefit fiddle

A Dover man has admitted three offences of benefit fraud involving more than £10,000.

Graham Benson, 45, of St Radigund’s Road, was ordered to carry out 250 hours of unpaid community work by magistrates at Folkestone on Monday.

He failed to declare paid employment as a hod carrier whilst obtaining income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit.

The overpayment of benefit from Dover District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions was £10,354.

Benson was ordered to pay £100 costs.

The council and the Department for Work and Pensions will recover the overpaid benefit paid from him.
