Dover TAP in place at Aycliffe

Dover TAP has begun this morning.

The Dover Traffic Access Protocol was put on place on the port-bound A20 at Aycliffe due to large lorry numbers.

Kent County Council's highways department says this is to prevent traffic heading to the port disrupting the local road network and the A20 through the town.

The system involves lorries being temporarily held up by traffic lights on the approach to Dover until roads become clearer and there is space at the port.

There is also a 40mph restriction for all vehicles in that direction.
