A passerby, who witnessed the driver trying to escape the tide, said: “I wasn’t there a long time but they were trying to hitch-up a rope to the vehicle,

“But because the vehicle was sunken down in the shingle it couldn’t connect. As I was leaving another towing vehicle turned up.”

Pictures from Tuesday show the vehicle attempting to free itself from the waves.

It appears police cordoned off a section of the beach following the incident.

This is not the first time this has happened on one of Kent's beaches.

In 2021 a VW Golf was completely submerged in Whitstable and later that year a Lexus became trapped in the same Dover spot.
