Man in 80s rushed to hospital after crash with suspected drug driver near Woodnesborough, Sandwich

A man in his 80s was rushed to hospital following a serious crash involving a suspected drug driver.

An 18-year-old from Canterbury was arrested following the incident on Sandwich Road at the junction with Chalkpit Lane, near Woodnesborough, Sandwich, last night.

He remains in police custody after being held on suspicion of drug-driving, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

Officers were called shortly before 8pm to the collision between a white Mercedes A180 and a black Skoda Fabia.

Both drivers were hurt in the smash, with the elderly man taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.

The teenager was taken to hospital with minor injuries as a precaution.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the accident or who has dashcam footage to come forward.

Police spokesman Steve Knight said: "Kent Police was called at 7.59pm on Sunday following a two-car collision on Sandwich Road at the junction with Chalkpit Lane, near Woodnesborough.

"Officers attended and the driver of one of the vehicles, a man in his 80s, was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.

"An 18-year-old man from Canterbury was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

"He remains in custody."
