Owner Natasha Hill said: "This was a small fire but the smoke damage was severe.

"The whole front salon is ruined. We have had a lot of bad luck.

"We had to close for 10 weeks after a flooding and had only reopened two weeks ago."

The wigs and hair extensions business had opened as recently as June.

Mrs Hill said: "We expect to open again in two weeks but we will move to a new premises in the town."

Two fire engines were called to the scene at 5.20pm.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to put out the small fire.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Crews wearing breathing apparatus made entry via the shop door window in order to enter the premises.

"The cause of the fire is not yet known and there were no reports of any casualties."

Firefighters were at the scene until just after 7pm.
