Concern after lorries getting stuck in South Military Road, Dover, becomes ‘regular occurrence’

Worried residents were left trapped after a lorry became wedged across a road.

Highways officials were called to South Military Road in Aycliffe, at Dover, after motorists were unable to get past the stuck lorry which was blocking the hill.

It became stuck near the entrance to the VEA 2022 lorry park, although bosses say it was not trying to access at the time.

However those living close by say blockages have become a "regular occurrence" close to the site.

One resident, who failed to get past the stuck lorry, last Thursday, said of the area: “It’s dangerous, there is a blind spot round the corner and someone could easily drive into the lorry.

“There is a regular flow of lorries going into the park every day and it's just not safe.

“I had to do a three-point turn in the road and go the other way in order to get home."

The lorry was stuck for several hours on Thursday but was finally cleared by workers from National Highways and Kent County Council.

The truck stop manager, Emil Arshinev, said it was not one of his lorry’s that got stuck.

“I told the guy that there were no available spaces and decided to park there anyway.

“He is 100% responsible for getting stuck.

“He parked overnight and when he tried to reverse in the morning that’s when he got jammed.

“This is nothing to do with us.

“It is dangerous but I told them to not park there, all of our lorry’s park inside.”

In February, a trucker got lost trying to access the lorry park and smashed into the side of a Vauxhall Zafira in St Patrick's Road.

At the time, Mr Arshinev said he couldn't understand how HGV drivers were missing his site, which opened in October.

"Lorry drivers should certainly be able to find the site if they have sat-nav," he said.
