Network Rail confirmed to Kent Online that the lorry was moved away at 10.30am.

A spokesman said: "There was no damage to the bridge or railway as the lorry hit the protection beam, put in place for just this occurrence."

Police finally left the scene just before midday.

Neighbour Jade Stokes, who took a photograph of the scene, said: "The lorry got stuck under the bridge. It is an on going problem and this is not the first time it had happened."

In a previous such incident, in October 2017, a lorry hit the same low structure and tilted over, damaging the perimeter wall of a house.

Again, its trailer got trapped under the 13ft 9in bridge.
