Dover's Loyalty Card scheme is being scrapped.

District councillor Roger Walkden, who runs it, said he was no longer prepared to work on the scheme.

He said he had issued around 15,000 cards to people - which gives them discounts in local shops and businesses - but they were not being used.

"The vast majority of members are not encouraging or even talking to their customers about the scheme, not even asking if they have a Loyalty Scheme card," he said.

"They simply are not supporting the scheme, not signing their customers up to the scheme, so no new card-holders."

Cllr Walkden said he wants to suport local businesses in other ways, including tackling litter and anti-social behaviour in the town and attracting better quality shops.
