Man charged with murder after death of nine-week-old baby

Police have charged a man with murder following the death of a nine-week-old baby.

It comes after officers were called to an address in Crabble, near Dover on Saturday, January 7 this year by ambulance crews.

It followed reports the young baby had been taken to a local hospital in a seriously ill condition.

The baby was transferred to a London hospital later that day, but died the following Monday.

Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have been investigating the circumstances behind the death and earlier today charged James Ring with murder.

The 21-year-old, who is formerly from the Crabble area and had been bailed to an address in the north Kent area, was remanded in custody and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court via video link today.

At the brief hearing, he was remanded to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday.
