Two migrants taken to hospital after suffering hypothermia in English Channel trying to reach Kent

Two migrants had to be taken to hospital with hypothermia, after being rescued off the Kent coast by French authorities.

A fishing boat with 10 people inside was found 10km north of Cap Gris-Nez, near Calais, by a helicopter in the early hours of this morning.

Eight people were initially rescued and transferred to the port of Calais, while the other two were then taken to a hospital in Boulogne, having been found in a state of severe hypothermia.

French bosses said the operation showed how it is possible to detect a boat in a perilous situation, and again issued a warning of the dangers involved in crossing the Channel.
