Nine migrants intercepted in the English Channel near Dover

More migrants have been intercepted in the English Channel this morning - with an 18-month-old child thought to be among them.

The group of nine, who said they were Iraqi, were rescued from a small boat off Dover just before 3am.

Shocking footage below, first aired on ITV's Good Morning Britain, shows the group being intercepted after the authorities were alerted to the attempted crossing.

It comes after eight migrants were picked up by the French authorities on Sunday and a further eight were found by patrols on Friday.

A Border Force cutter and a coastal patrol vessel intercepted the dinghy off and brought them to Dover.

The group was made up of two family groups and another man. In all there were three men, two women and four children.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “All are medically well and have been transferred to immigration officials for interview.”

It is the latest in a spate of incidents over the past two weeks which has seen more than 90 migrants attempt to reach the shores of the UK.
