New Boulogne ferries to start in March

AFTER months of delays the new cross-channel ferry operator to Boulogne has announced a start date for spring next year. The fast service from Dover to Boulogne with SpeedFerries will start on 31 March.

Initially the company had planned to begin sailing on the second-generation catamaran in May, but the launch was delayed by operational problems, especially at Boulogne's port which has not been used since Hover Speed pulled out two years ago.

The route will offer five daily return trips from Dover with a crossing time of only 50 minutes and room for 200 cars and 800 passengers. The company hopes to start taking bookings from Tuesday, February 24.

SpeedFerries managing director Curt Stavis said: "With the option of using Boulogne as the gateway, SpeedFerries' customers will now have access to a completely new and improved infrastructure for trips to France and Southern Europe. Not to mention that Boulogne is, itself, the most attractive destination on the French side of the Dover Strait."
