New ferry route to Boulogne

BOULOGNE is back on the map for passengers from Dover after a new ferry company announced it would be re-opening the route with one of the world's more advanced car ferries in May.

British and Danish flags were flying over the disused ferry berths yestyerday as SpeedFerries made the announcement at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the Boulonge seafront.

The Danish venture will launch its first high tech catamaran from a Norfolk Line berth at the Eastern Docks.

It has yet to be confirmed how many new jobs will be created, although the seafaring crew and office staff will be based in Dover. Ground handling in Dover and Boulogne will be handled by Norfolk Line employees.

The introduction of the SpeedFerries line will mean there will be five ferry companies operating out of Dover port to continental Europe.
