Nine migrant boats intercepted in the English Channel near Dover

About 65 migrants have been brought into Dover harbour today, amid a rise in illegal crossings.

The men and women were spread among nine boats, according to Sky News who joined Border Force boat in a fishing vessel.

Seven boats had been halted before 7am, with the last two coming shortly after.

All of the migrants were brought into a centre in Dover, where they will receive medical checks.

Today's incidents follow nine attempted landings over the last weekend, and crossings are becoming a common sight for fishermen in the area.

Matt Coker, who owns the boat used by Sky News, told the reporter: "That's not the first time I've seen that, it's quite regular.

"They don't seem so interested in stopping the vessels than they do in escorting them across."

With reports continuing to rise, Home Secretary Priti Patel recently spoke to French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner who reaffirmed the move to carry out more returns at sea.
